Bloodwork gives our veterinary team a better understanding of the ins and outs of your pet’s health. Though signs and symptoms of internal issues might manifest externally, the best way to confirm them is with diagnostic testing like bloodwork. Our team is trained to interpret blood work test results at our in-house laboratory and determine how we can support your pet’s health.

Why does my pet need bloodwork?

If it’s your pet’s first visit – this helps us get a baseline reading of their overall health, as well as show how well their internal organs are working

If your pet is having their veterinary exam – pets age at a faster rate than humans so bloodwork helps us keep up-to-date with changes in their health between visits

If your pet doesn’t seem like their usual selves – if you’ve noticed subtle differences in your pet’s behaviour, we might recommend bloodwork to identify potential issues

If your pet is having surgery soon – as part of our pre-surgery protocol, we’ll do bloodwork to ensure your pet will have the safest procedure possible, especially if they’re going under anesthesia

What might bloodwork reveal?

Just as the name suggests, bloodwork helps us to see how well your pet’s blood (and internal organs) are working. It determines the number of red and white blood cells, as well as platelets, which show how well their immune system is working. Different chemicals in the bloodstream, like glucose and proteins, help us understand how their organs are working. Even small abnormalities can reveal health issues that would have been hard to detect without bloodwork.

My pet’s bloodwork test results are in. What now?

After our veterinary team has examined your pet’s results, we’ll develop a comprehensive plan to address any issues revealed in the bloodwork.
