I’m not sure if it’s time to end my pet’s life. How can I decide?

As a member of the family, deciding to peacefully end your pet’s life deserves careful thought. If you’re unsure about what the best decision is for your pet, we can discuss your options. Our veterinarians can provide guidance based on the severity of your pet’s illness, pain, or whether their quality of life is being significantly impacted. We want to equip you with all the information you need to make a decision that honours your pet’s life. Ultimately, we hope you can make a decision, along with your loved ones, that prioritizes your pet’s wellbeing.

Will my pet experience pain during the process?

We do our best to ensure your pet doesn’t feel any pain or discomfort. Before the process begins, we will share details of the procedure and answer any questions. We might recommend a sedative if we think your pet seems uneasy and needs help relaxing. This also helps reduce their pain. Next, your pet will receive life-ending medication via IV (intravenous) which shuts down their brain and heart. It takes a few minutes to ensure your pet has an easeful end-of-life transition.

How do I deal with saying goodbye to my furry friend?

The thought of losing your beloved furry family member is difficult to process. It’s important to acknowledge the range of feelings you have while grieving your pet and know they are valid. There is no right way to experience grief. One thing that might be helpful is planning how you and your family will honour your pet’s life. This could involve a small memorial or gathering with loved ones to reflect on memorable moments with your pet. Our veterinary team is here for support if you feel like you are having a hard time processing the loss of your pet. Please connect with us if you are interested in the grieving support services we can offer.
